The Application Crashes – What Can I Do?
Unfortunately, there is no single solution, as crashes can be caused by many different issues. Most of the time, it’s related to graphics, SteamVR, or hardware like the HMD (Head Mounted Display) or TV (e.g., loose cables, broken connectors, or faulty devices).
With newer 14th and 15th generation intel CPU's and mainboards there might be an issue. Updating the BIOS to the newest version and disabling XMP profiles might help with the problem.
Start by Gathering Information:
When does the crash happen?
How often does it happen?
Which experience was running?
Does it only crash with one experience? Try running others for a longer time.
Was a customer using it or was it idle?
Is the issue reproducible?
Did anything change before the issue started (e.g., moving Birdly, dropping the HMD, Windows update)?
Is Birdly located in a room under 26°C?
Possible Solutions:
Hardware Checks:
-
Inspect all cables and connectors for damage or loose fit:
HMD cable (both ends: HMD and Birdly)
HDMI (TV) cable (both ends: TV and Birdly)
Check the HMD and TV for visible damage.
Software Updates:
Update your GPU drivers (e.g., NVIDIA)
Update SteamVR
Update Windows (you don’t need to upgrade to Windows 11)
Settings to Review:
Set SteamVR as the OpenXR runtime
(SteamVR > Settings > OpenXR > Set SteamVR as OpenXR Runtime)Check audio settings (look for missing drivers or strange devices)
Check missing drivers in the Windows 'Device Manager'
Check Windows display settings (100% scaling, native resolution, or 1080p)
Advanced Steps (For Experts Only):
Clean Birdly's air intakes and filters
Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables
Download hereDelete the local save folder:
%localappdata%\BirdlyWorld\Saved
(or any other relevant folder under%localappdata%)Reinstall the Birdly image
⚠️ Make sure no custom experiences are installed manually before reinstalling!
Hardware Replacement (if needed):
Replace the HMD cable
Replace the HMD
Replace the HDMI cable
Replace the TV
